Is your image working for you or against you?
Diane came to see me; her problem was that she seemed only to be able to find work with temping agencies. She has good skills and has always been warmly received by other staff at her various assignments. Why couldn’t she find her own job? What was holding her back? Perhaps it’s the first impression she makes at an interview - so that’s where we began.
Working together we went about improving her image, starting at the top. We decided on a new haircut and a few highlights that would blend with her muted skin tone. Diane didn’t want to spend big money on makeup, but she started on a basic skin care routine and I showed her how to use minimum makeup for maximum effect. Already you could see a stunning difference.

Diane’s body shape is curvy with her hips and thighs being her widest part.
An ideal figure for wearing embellishments or patterns on her top half, with one important note: she needs to choose patterns, embellishments, necklines and collars with soft rounded lines to enhance her own natural shape.
No bare legs Diane!
Wearing soft natural hosiery will give you a more professional look. The ideal shoes are a pair of neutral medium heels in ‘as new’ condition.
Keep accessories to a minimum…no flashy earrings.
Your handbag?
Not too big, but more importantly, clean it out. If you need to venture into your handbag for a pen or papers you won’t need to rummage around, you will appear organised.

The ‘new’ Diane made the short list for a position but, better than that, wore her improved style while temping and was offered a full time position on her second day.
Studies have shown that we form our first impression of others within the first 7 – 30 seconds of meeting. In other words if an employer likes the way you present yourself, at least you won’t be cut from the short list in the first 30 seconds.
Invest in yourself; it may be the best decision you ever make!
